German Shepherd Puppies vs. Adults
Dog Training Elite Indianapolis recommends starting dog training as early as possible, soon after a puppy is ready to leave its mother. Puppies are capable of learning basic commands, and smart German Shepherd puppies do great with early training.
If you adopt an older German Shepherd, or never got around to puppy training, don’t worry! Dog Training Elite Indianapolis has adult dog training programs as well. A complete puppy training typically takes a few months. Adult dog training can take longer or shorter, depending on whether a dog needs to unlearn bad habits in addition to being trained.
In-Home German Shepherd Training
Dog Training Elite Indianapolis offers specialized in-home German Shepherd training for both owners and dogs of any age. Working with a German Shepherd and the owner directly in the home allows dog trainers to create personalized training plans for individual dogs, as well as address any unique needs or issues. Once a dog has completed in-home training, they can take group classes for more in-depth training - Dog Training Elite Indianapolis offers both puppy and adult dog group classes.
Beginning training in the home also helps owners bond with their dogs so when the dog trainer leaves, no progress is lost.

German Shepherd Specific Tips Be Consistent
Dogs, and especially German Shepherds, do best with consistency. Always make sure to use the same verbal and/or physical cues during training to avoid any confusion. Also, be consistent about rules - establish at the beginning, for example, whether or not your dog is allowed on the couch. Then, don’t change the rule under any circumstances.

INCREDIBLE experience! By the end of day 3 in their facility camp, Theo is following commands even when he is taking a break from his collar. They share videos of the commands they teach on a daily basis and provide daily progress notes. All of the trainers are so patient and passionate about what they do and take the time to explain and answer all questions. Theo absolutely loves going back every morning. We did the two week training camp for our dog and it completely changed his behaviors. We didn't have to fight him on walks anymore or worry about him dashing out of the house if a door opened to the outside. He listens to our commands and we have peace of mind knowing that he has a solid foundation for us to continue training him into the future. All of the trainers were extremely friendly, caring, and helpful. Getting footage of training every day also helped us to do training at home. I could not recommend Dog Training Elite any more! Everywhere I go people ask me how I got my dog to behave as well as he does, literally on a daily basis! I always send them to DTE because they are outstanding. They know how to address every bump in the road that comes up, and really care about you and your dog. Doug and Elijah have been working with me and my dog Oakley for a long time, and the other trainers are all wonderful too. Great for service dog training or obedience training. So nice to have a manageable life again after the puppy craziness that was going on in our household😆 Oakley also LOVES them and genuinely enjoys working with them. Before DTE, I was ready to rehome my rescue that had been rehomed to me. I've had dogs before, but I could not get Hartley's behavior was causing a great deal of stress. The trainers are amazing and they really worked with her (and me) on her issues and behavior. Now, I have a dog that is amazing. I recently took her to my father's nursing home. Our puppy, Annie, just finished obedience training at Dog Training Elite and we are absolutely thrilled with our experience! Not only did Annie learn a lot of new skills while attending their day camp, they gave us tons of videos and constant support to help us maintain her progress at home.
