What Role Does Breed Play?
When it comes to training, the breed of your dog can play a pretty significant role. Generally, dogs share qualities of loyalty, kindness and intelligence, regardless of breed. Specific breeds, however, may have a trait not as prevalent in other breeds. For example, some breeds bred for working roles tend to be more energetic and intelligent than breeds bred to be more of a companion. At Dog Training Elite Indianapolis, we use breed specific training to shape a plan to fit you and your dog.

While we look at what challenges owners face with specific breeds, the key to dog training is maintaining a consistent schedule to ensure the desired behavior you seek.
The training programs offered at Dog Training Elite Indianapolis come in a general form, but we also provide breed-specific training to target breed-specific issues. German Shepherd Training
German Shepherds are a popular breed for herding and other working roles. They have many beautiful traits, including strength, vigilance and confidence. Though breed-specific training is taken into account, all of Dog Training Elite Indianapolis’s training programs are based on a foundation of consistency and positive reinforcement. Punishment does not yield positive results. Dogs are eager to please, regardless of breed, and if they’re rewarded for good behavior, they’ll stick to good behavior.
Our Balanced Theory
We base our training around the "Classical Conditioning" model (a.k.a. "Pavlovian" or "respondent conditioning"). This includes developing conditioned or automatic reflexes to commands. In its simplest form (after proper conditioning), when the owner says "sit," the dog automatically sits without thinking about it. INCREDIBLE experience! By the end of day 3 in their facility camp, Theo is following commands even when he is taking a break from his collar. They share videos of the commands they teach on a daily basis and provide daily progress notes. All of the trainers are so patient and passionate about what they do and take the time to explain and answer all questions. Theo absolutely loves going back every morning. We did the two week training camp for our dog and it completely changed his behaviors. We didn't have to fight him on walks anymore or worry about him dashing out of the house if a door opened to the outside. He listens to our commands and we have peace of mind knowing that he has a solid foundation for us to continue training him into the future. All of the trainers were extremely friendly, caring, and helpful. Getting footage of training every day also helped us to do training at home. I could not recommend Dog Training Elite any more! Everywhere I go people ask me how I got my dog to behave as well as he does, literally on a daily basis! I always send them to DTE because they are outstanding. They know how to address every bump in the road that comes up, and really care about you and your dog. Doug and Elijah have been working with me and my dog Oakley for a long time, and the other trainers are all wonderful too. Great for service dog training or obedience training. So nice to have a manageable life again after the puppy craziness that was going on in our household😆 Oakley also LOVES them and genuinely enjoys working with them. Before DTE, I was ready to rehome my rescue that had been rehomed to me. I've had dogs before, but I could not get Hartley's behavior was causing a great deal of stress. The trainers are amazing and they really worked with her (and me) on her issues and behavior. Now, I have a dog that is amazing. I recently took her to my father's nursing home. Our puppy, Annie, just finished obedience training at Dog Training Elite and we are absolutely thrilled with our experience! Not only did Annie learn a lot of new skills while attending their day camp, they gave us tons of videos and constant support to help us maintain her progress at home.
