Dog Training Elite in Houston, TX

Frequently Asked Questions

General
One of our trainers will visit your home to meet you and your dog and discuss any issues you're facing. We will then demonstrate one of our model dogs so you can see what you can expect after hiring our trainers. From there, we will discuss the various packages we offer and which we feel best suit your (and your dog's) needs.
The answer to this is in how the technology of "shock" collars (as they were called in the past) has changed a lot since they originated several years ago. The stimulation in the electronic collars we use is much like a TENS unit and provides a tapping sensation that is used to get the dog's attention on a very low level. We use a brand called Dogtra. We do not use "shock" collars, but electronic collars employed by the top obedience trainers around the world and in Houston.
No. We use electronic collars to get the dogs attention only. When you work around distractions (which is one of our main focuses), keeping your dog's attention is paramount. The collar, combined with positive reinforcement (we like to use praise), help create a positive learning environment in Houston for your dog.
In most cases, the collar will run at about $250, without tax, but is subject to market fluctuation in Houston.
No, but your dog will wear it a lot in the beginning. The objective is to create a conditioned response with your dog; meaning that when you say 'sit', your dog sits automatically without thinking about it first. Much like Pavlov's Dogs or Pavlovian Conditioning, we create a reflex response to you giving a command using the electronic collar. That being said, after your dog is "collar-conditioned", you will be able to remove the collar and still have a dog that will be obedient.
We provide full obedience training that covers all basic commands, both on and off-leash. Our in-home visits target specific issues like counter-surfing, digging, and more. Unlike some trainers, we work with all breeds, including those often considered challenging.
Yes. You (and anyone in your family who wants to be involved) are integral to your dog getting trained. We need you to practice 5-6 days a week, about 15-20 minutes a day for optimal results.
Once a week. We come to you (with the silver, gold and platinum packages) once a week to start your dog off, then you come to park sessions which are held once a week in Houston.
To effectively resolve specific issues, we need to start with a solid foundation in obedience. This approach helps you become a confident leader for your dog, which is key to addressing and preventing behavioral problems.
Nope. Those are dangerous grounds to tread upon. We'd much rather train a vicious dog!
We train dogs of all breeds, sizes, and temperaments. Whether your dog is a tiny Chihuahua or a large Mastiff, we have the experience and expertise to work with them.
Yes. Working with and controlling aggression is one of our specialties in Houston.
We focus on training companion dogs for veterans and individuals with PTSD and other psychological conditions. In addition to service animals, we also train therapy dogs that visit hospitals, nursing homes, and treatment centers.
To be a service dog, your dog needs to have an even temperament. Golden Retrievers, Labrador Retrievers, Standard Poodles, Goldendoodles, etc. typically have a great temperament for service work. For some types of service work, your dog will need to have AKC certifications (such as Canine Good Citizen or Community Canine) which we are able to certify. As always, we would be happy to assess your dog's aptitude for service work for free!

Jan has worked with my German Shepherd for 2 months now and the experience has been great! Very informative, helpful and the results have been noticeable from the start! I would absolutely recommend the training that your dog or pup will receive from dog training elite. Trainers and staff are very kind, patient and will work through all problems or concerns you bring to their attention.

Bob is amazing! Our puppy was a poor emaciated rescue in need of love and security and once settled and healthy, was a very rambunctious pup. Bob has the patience of a saint in working with our baby and giving us practical milestones, lots of encouragement and advice along the way. Our puppy is MUCH better behaved and providing the structure needed makes for a happier household all around.

From the moment they stepped in my house I could see the passion for training and the lov for dogs they had. They move as slow or as fast as your dog needs. Shaping the training to suit your pet always reminding you that you are now a part of their family and they will always be there to help. Not only did they teach my Goose(dogs name) to be my battle buddy(service dog) but they taught me how to work with him. They have given me the ability to start to get my life back. I can’t ever repay them for that.

Gosh, I can't love this place more. Jan is FANTASTIC. He trained our service dog, Leia, and I have zero negative things to say. He is thorough, patient, and so knowledgeable. If we ever get another dog we will 100% come back here and request him. You won't be disappointed in using DTE!

I am thrilled to share my incredibly positive experience with Dog Training Elite services. After just three weeks of in-facility training, my beloved dog Freya has transformed into an outstanding service animal, exceeding all expectations. I couldn't be more delighted with the results, and I wholeheartedly give Dog Training Elite a well-deserved 5-star review. From the moment we enrolled Freya in their program, the professionalism and dedication of the team were evident. Talia tailored a comprehensive training plan specifically for Freya's needs, ensuring a personalized approach that addressed her unique qualities. Talia exhibited a genuine passion for her work, creating a positive and supportive environment that fostered Freya's development. One of the most remarkable aspects of Dog Training Elite is their ability to achieve results quickly without compromising the well-being of the animals. Freya's newfound skills, include nudging, cover, and 6 showcase the effectiveness of the training methods employed by Talia. Not only did Freya exhibit remarkable progress during the in-facility training, but she also successfully passed her service dog test with flying colors. This achievement is a testament to the expertise and commitment of the Dog Training Elite team. I am immensely grateful for the positive impact this has had on Freya's life and, consequently, on mine. Thanks to their exceptional services, Freya is now officially my service dog, providing invaluable support and companionship. The bond between us has deepened, and I credit Dog Training Elite for facilitating this transformation. In summary, if you are looking for top-notch dog training services that yield remarkable results, look no further than Dog Training Elite. Their commitment to excellence, personalized approach, and quick, effective results make them the go-to choice for anyone seeking professional dog training services. I wholeheartedly recommend Talia and Dog Training Elite and award them a well-deserved 5 stars!

My Doberman puppy and I have had great success with their training program. The instructors are professional dog trainers with an incredible amount of patience and experience with all types of dogs. My 8 month Doby is now 56lbs and I'm 5'1. Without their help I would not be able to walk my dog without being dragged by her, she's can already over power me, but she doesn't. Highly recommend their dog training services.

I was so overwhelmed trying to find a trainer for my Canne Corso puppy Lola. It didn't feel right to go to a "board and train" leaving my baby with strangers and letting them train her. I'm so glad I went with Dog Training Elite. Rachel and Daniel are the real dog whisperers! My puppy was totally OUT OF CONTROL. In no time Lola was more obedient and calm... I could actually have people over without having to put her away.. our walks stopped being stressful and EMBARRASSING like they were before ( Lola was basically walking ME!!) I highly recommend Rachel and Daniel at Dog Training Elite. They are patient, listened to my concerns, and were available for phone consultations between training sessions. They also had flexible training times that fit into my busy life. If I could give 10 stars I would!!

Great to work with! We have 2 rescue dogs that didn't fit in the traditional puppy training classes and when we found Elite North East Houston Dog Training it was just what we needed. We have that individual focused training at home as well as group classes. Rachel and Daniel are fantastic trainers. All of our neighbors have noticed a difference and always ask us how we got the dogs trained so well. Highly recommend!

Rachel and Daniel are amazing, we are so happy they are the company we went with. They listened to and helped with every concern we had, always available to help. They are so sweet and definitely feel more like friends than just someone that helped us train Duke. We are able to take him with us anywhere and he behaves so well. If you are looking for someone that loves animals and cares about your wants and needs they are the right team!

I am thrilled to give Daniel and Rachel from Dog Training Elite a well-deserved 5-star review! Our 9-month-old golden retriever was causing us quite a bit of concern with his unruly behavior and aggression, making it challenging to have him around our kids. We were on the brink of considering a new home for him, but then we found Daniel and Rachel. Their patience and expertise were truly remarkable. Not only did they work diligently to train our dog, but they also guided us in establishing a calmer and more stress-free environment. Our dog's resource guarding and aggression issues are so much better thanks to their dedicated efforts. Through their guidance, our puppy has now mastered essential commands like "place," "sit," "down," "off," and "heel." He's like a completely transformed dog! Our friends and family can't believe the level of obedience he has achieved. No longer does he jump on guests or rush to the door; instead, he waits patiently until he's invited to greet them. Daniel and Rachel make an incredible team. Their commitment to improving our dog's behavior and our relationship with him is truly commendable. We are immensely grateful to have discovered their services, and we wholeheartedly recommend them to anyone seeking professional and effective dog training. Thank you, Daniel and Rachel, for turning our pup into a well-mannered and obedient companion!

DTE has been an amazing help for our rescue dog. From the first at home visit, we knew that the trainer, Alex, would be great for helping our dog with aggression issues and socialization. The one on one, at home training sessions that occur before group training give a perfect foundation and ample time for practice before joining group training sessions. Alex brought one of his dogs, Delta, who is immaculately well trained, to our house for our last at-home session to help socialize our dog and practice being around other dogs in as low-stress an environment as possible. We have really enjoyed the sense of community with group training each week and have seen wonderful changes in our dog's temperament and socialization. After a stray dog attack shortly after we adopted him, we feared he would never be able to be near other dogs, but he has many friends now that he happily sniffs and interacts with. I cannot recommend DTE highly enough!

Daniel's first love of canines came at an early age while growing up with German Shepherds, He completed 31 years of military service before embarking on this current journey. Throughout the years he has had many canine companions with his favorite being a dachshund called Hardy In the 18 years he had with Hardy, his favorite time was seeing the pure excitement of his little buddy when he came home from work. As time went on, he developed strong bonds with his adopted pack Monty (Golden Retriever) and Princess (Black Labrador) both of whom provided much love and companionship. Currently, his pack includes his wife Rachel and business partners Louie (Mini Dachshund), Lola (Mini Dachshund), Sophie (Lab mix), and Lucy (Shepherd Mix). At the age of 10, Rachel's first experience in training dogs began with a strong-willed Chow-Chow named Bear. During her 22-year career in the military and a 15-year career in corporate America, there wasn't a time she didn't lovingly have a canine or 2 or 5, at her side. Her children grew up with Sidney (a rescue mix) Monty and Princess. She was able to enjoy her time with Monty and Princess for more than 17 years and misses them dearly, although this journey, keeps their memory close to her heart. Her current pack includes her husband Daniel and 4 business partners, Louie, Lola, Sophie and Lucy. It is her goal to give back to the community by way of improving relationships between handlers and their canine(s) or parents and their fur-babies.

Sophie -
Sophie

Sophie is part owner and a serious somewhat lazy Labrador mix. She joined the team after needing a partner in crime for Lucy. She came from a loving family who could no longer care for her and fit right into our pack with much sassiness and stubborn attitude. She is also quite loving and if you look into her eyes, it’s almost as if you can see into her soul.

Lucy

Lucy is part owner and a fun-loving German Shephard mix, that showed up to the Van De Mark home one summer afternoon. After failed attempts to find from where she came, it was decided that joining the pack was the best choice. She enjoys lots of exercise, dog TV, and time spent chewing on bones.

Louie and Lola -
Louie and Lola

Louie and Lola are miniature long-haired dachshunds who have been part of the Van De Mark team for over a decade. Louie's favorite past time is laying in your lap. He rarely discriminates between shapes and sizes as long as it provides warmth. He is semi-retired while enjoying board meetings that involve long nap times and occasional treats. Lola, in her decidedly full retirement, prefers to search for the best naptime hiding spots. She very much enjoys her meals but enjoys instigating the neighborhood canine chats even more.

I grew up in the Houston area in a house full of animals. While attending Sam Houston State University I began training with Dog Training Elite as a Service Dog client. During this time I quickly realized just how much joy there was in seeing the tremendous progress my own dog made throughout the program. My unruly and dog reactive shelter pup turned into a well mannered service dog…the training was life changing for me. Upon graduating from SHSU with my BFA in Media Production I decided that I wanted to help others have the opportunity to experience this program by becoming a Trainer with DTE. I know first hand just how amazing this company is. I have always worked in the service industry and enjoy helping people connect with their furry friends in order to bring out their best in all that they can do. I currently reside with my cat, who thinks he runs the world, and my sweet service dog “Fish”. I love that I get to do this life changing work every day!
