Golden Retrievers have been the classic family dog for years and rank as one of the top five breeds in America. These smart, loyal, friendly dogs make great companions. Not only do they have a gentle and fun-loving nature that makes them ideal for families with kids, they are also capable and intelligent working dogs.

Golden Retrievers are not at all aggressive. They can be great with other pets if given a proper introduction, but their lack of aggression doesn’t make them great as guard dogs.

Dog Training Elite Dallas—Fort Worth has years of experience with both Golden Retriever training and Golden Retriever puppy training. Dog Training Elite Dallas—Fort Worth puppy training, obedience and therapy animal training programs are well-suited for Golden Retrievers.

Because of their eager-to-please nature and intelligence, Golden Retriever puppies are relatively easy to train. Dog Training Elite Dallas—Fort Worth will help owners develop a strong bond with their new Golden Retriever puppy and harness all the wonderful qualities of the breed.

Dog Training Elite offers professional Golden Retriever puppy training near you in Frisco.
Training a Golden Retriever Puppy

Dog Training Elite Dallas—Fort Worth recommends starting dog training as early as possible. Puppies are capable of learning basic commands. Smart Golden Retriever puppies do great with early training.

Complete Golden Retriever puppy training typically takes a few months. Dog Training Elite Dallas—Fort Worth offers specialized in-home training. Working with a Golden Retriever puppy and the owner directly in the home prevents puppies from being distracted and allows dog trainers to create personalized training plans for individual puppies, as well as address any unique needs or issues. Once a puppy has completed in-home training, Dog Training Elite Dallas—Fort Worth offers puppy group classes for further training.

Beginning Golden Retriever training in the home also helps owners bond with their pup so when the dog trainer leaves, no progress is lost. It’s important for owners to stay consistent with puppy training and continue it long term.

Training can be great mental stimulation, so a great exercise for Golden Retrievers as they get older is progressing their training. Once your puppy has mastered sitting, for example, train them to maintain the position until released. Once your puppy is a bit older, explore other sports and activities.

Our Balanced Theory

We base our training around the "Classical Conditioning" model (a.k.a. "Pavlovian" or "respondent conditioning"). This includes developing conditioned or automatic reflexes to commands. In its simplest form (after proper conditioning), when the owner says "sit," the dog automatically sits without thinking about it. Our unique techniques ensure our program is a success no matter what behavior we encounter.

Golden Retriever Specific Tips Exercise

Golden Retrievers are considered “sporting dogs” and require at least an hour of daily exercise. True to their name, Golden Retrievers love retrieving things! Golden Retrievers can even participate in obedience and agility events, and they’ll enjoy every minute of it.

A Golden Retriever puppy that doesn’t get enough exercise is likely to develop bad behaviors like digging or chewing. During the first two years of a Golden Retriever’s life, however, make sure to take it easy with exercise as their growth plates are still forming - don’t go for long, strenuous runs or hikes until the dog is fully grown and try to always opt for grass instead of concrete.

Golden Retriever Specific Tips Weight Management

Golden Retrievers can easily become overweight so owners will need to help manage their food intake. Measure out food twice a day instead of “free-feeding” and give treats in moderation.

Golden Retriever Specific Tips Make it a Family Affair

If you have adopted a Golden Retriever puppy to become part of a family, make sure all kids and adults are on the same page with training and all practice basic tricks with the family dog.

Dog Training Elite Dallas—Fort Worth has developed training programs for puppies and adult dogs alike based on positive reinforcement. German Shepherd training with our in-home option is entirely possible. Read on to learn more about the Dog Training Elite Dallas—Fort Worth training method.

Golden Retriever Specific Tips Be Consistent

Establish house rules for your dog, and then stick to them. If you choose not to let your dog on the couch, don’t ever let them on the couch for any reason. Golden Retriever training can help you establish routines and learn how to be consistent about enforcing them.

The Dog Training Elite
Difference

Dog Training Elite Dallas—Fort Worth uses modern training methods focused on positive reinforcement and bonding between dog and dog owner. Dog Training Elite Dallas—Fort Worth never resorts to the use of punishment to help dogs unlearn bad behavior. The difference becomes clear when comparing a dog that is trained out of anxiety and intimidation vs a dog who truly desires to please from the inside out.

The Dog Training Elite Dallas—Fort Worth training theory is mostly based around classical conditioning, also known as the Pavlovian method or respondent conditioning. This includes developing conditioned or automatic reflexes to commands. In its simplest form (after proper conditioning), when an owner says "sit," their dog automatically sits without thinking about it.

Through a combination of commands and an electronic collar, dogs learn to follow commands at once. The electronic collar is not a shock collar; it is a gentle electronic pulse, similar to the tug of a leash, used to get the dog’s attention. Other dog trainers use harsh static collars or spray collars which have been shown to be less effective. Dog Training Elite Dallas—Fort Worth’s method of focusing on positive behavior reinforcement nurtures a dog's loving and naturally obedient nature.

After rescuing a very large and VERY REACTIVE Labrador we knew we needed help getting his reacitvity under control before any training would be effective. After trying a standard 6 week program elsewhere, it was clear our dog's reactivity needed some expert focus. After significant research there was a clear standout option - Dog Training Elite Frisco. I reached out and spoke to Kelly who was very knowledgeable, listening to all of my concerns carefully and answering all of my questions specific to our needs. We immediately signed up for the free assessment. From the initial free assessment with Tra we knew we were in the right place. Through Tra's demostration and work in that 90 mins, we learned so much about our dog and witnessed the professional expertise we knew was needed. We did not hesitate to sign up then and there. Most of our training sessions were with Kyler who was excellent in ever way! Very knowledgeable, very quick to think of alternatives approaches if something wasn't working. Always had a solution or a tweak to the process to meet our dog's specific challenges and forthcoming with feedback for me as the owner/trainer for my dog. Dependable, patient, focused, clearly expert and professional all the way! We also had a couple of sessions with Felicity when Kyler was not available and she was awesome as well! Super nice, very knowledgeable, fun, and again, always had a solution or tweak for our dogs specific needs. We needed help with integrating our dog with our son's dog as they were very reactive to each other and both Tra and Kyler made it happen! This was a game changer for our family ! We now go every week to group sessions led by Kyler which are fun and extremely beneficial to our dog's ongoing socialization, focus, and perfect for reinforcement of training with distractions. Kyler makes it fun and is always challenging the dogs each in the way he knows they need to be challenged. Overall I can't say enough about this program and all of these trainers! Highly recommend this team - they are worth every penny!

Dog Training Elite and Kyler came into our lives and not only did amazing with Senna’s puppy training. Kyler also observed and knew that Senna was meant to have a greater job in life, Therapy Dog. We continued Senna’s training with Kyler and Senna now goes to work with Mama, as a Therapy Dog for children with Autism and other developmental disabilities. Thank you Kyler for helping us have the Bestest Boy!!! Not only have you taught us how to work with him to reach his highest potential but you and Dog Training Elite have become part of our family.

Kyler Wittwer has the heart to work with dogs. Gentle. Yet, firm. My 5 dogs are ranch dogs and don’t really take to people. Kyler is amazing with them. I have 1 dog that’s frightened of storms, Kyler soothed her little soul. Kyler is amazing! And I wouldn’t trust anyone to train my dogs than him.

I worked with Kyler from Dog Training Elite and he was amazing. My dog was very reactive towards other dogs and scared of people. Since working with Kyler, her confidence has grown immensely. Kyler was very patient with my dog while working with her. He also helped me a ton on how I should be interacting with her and expectations. Not only did he help in Katie’s training, but mine as well! She went from barely knowing sit to now knowing all the basics and how to heel. It’s like night a day and I am so appreciative! Definitely worth working with him and dog training elite! She is a much happier, confident, well behaved dog!

Kyler was so helpful with my little Sofia! As a German shepherd she was reactive and almost impossible to walk around the neighborhood. Now with Kyler’s persistence and determination I can take my sweet girl anywhere I go. Thank you Kyler for your kind help and patience as we navigated these issues!

Kyler and Dog Training Elite has made a huge difference in our Doberman puppy. We learned the skills we needed to make sure that he could have a safe and happy with our other dogs. He is such a big dog and so friendly. Sometimes he would get too excited and cross the line to being dangerous for the other dogs (who are little). Our puppy both loves and respects Kyler. We continue to take part in the group classes and our puppy is so excited to be there. It continues to give us the consistency of training and support if we have any questions.

Elite dog training is the best place to take your dog. Kyler has trained 2 of our dogs. I like that he focuses on rewarding good behavior rather than punishing bad behavior. Kyler can address a wide range of behaviors. We will not take our dogs anywhere else.

These guys are great! After using multiple away-from-home trainers, we finally called Kyler at Dog Training Elite. In just 3 sessions we are already seeing huge improvements. They know their stuff and they teach you in a way where you can continue the improvments when you're on your own. If my wife lets me get another dog, he'll be trained by these guys too! Highly recommend them!

We’ve had our first in-home training session with Jordan from Dog Training Elite about two weeks ago. He was absolutely AMAZING!! The experience we had when our Shiba puppy went thru a Manners I course at another dog training facility was no where close to what you get at Dog Training Elite. We would leave the previous training facility with so many questions as to wondering when is the right time to reward with a treat and when not to for “kind of” getting close to completing a command. We were very confused a majority of the time and even though our puppy retained some of her training from that facility, a lot of it did not stick as much as we practiced because she knows that she’ll get treats if she finishes the command and won’t do it without seeing you have a treat ready. What sets Dog Training Elite apart from the previous dog training facility we went to was that they use e-collars as a tool to help train the dog and some treats as well. When we had our puppy assessed, the trainer at the facility explained how to properly use the e-collar as a tool and reassured us that one day, we don’t have to use it anymore b/c our dog will know to listen to our voice when we say a command. At first, we did feel a bit hesitant about using it, but we trust what they had to say so we took a chance and signed up for one of the training packages since they had some things included that we want our puppy to learn. When we first met Jordan, our Shiba was very happy to see him, but he ignored her the whole time until she was calm then he pet her some. While our Shiba was jumping on him in excitement, he thoroughly explained why he was ignoring her then how the training was going to work, and how to properly use the e-collar. What we really liked about Jordan was that he even acted out as his dog and explained play-by-play what to expect along with some examples of what his dog, Atlas, does so that we know exactly what to look for!! THIS was the kind of help and example of what we needed in order to properly know what to do when those moments where we were questioning from the previous facility happens with our dog!!! What was also really great was that Jordan had us train our puppy on the commands out in front of our home so that there may be extra distractions that may come with our neighbors to teach our puppy to listen to our voice. He even had his dog, Atlas, join us to distract our Shiba. He would point out what to look for and what to do when our Shiba is distracted and doesn’t listen. I am so glad we signed up for Dog Training Elite! We’re already seeing a difference in how our Shiba responds to some of the commands we went thru at the first training session!! We HIGHLY recommend Jordan with Dog Training Elite if you’re in need of a great dog trainer!! We couldn’t be more happy and are super excited for our next sessions with him!!

I recently had the pleasure of working with Felicity, and I couldn't be more thrilled with the results. From the moment I contacted her, her professionalism and dedication were evident. Her approach was both comprehensive and tailored to my dog's specific needs. She took the time to understand my dog's personality, quirks, and behaviors, which allowed her to devise a customized training plan that addressed my concerns effectively. Thanks to Felicity’s guidance and support, Spike has made incredible progress. From basic obedience commands to overcoming behavioral issues, the transformation has been nothing short of remarkable. I wholeheartedly recommend Dog Training Elite to anyone seeking professional, compassionate, and effective training for their furry companions. They are truly a cut above the rest and have made a significant impact on both my dog's life and mine.
