Golden Retrievers have long been a favorite choice for families, consistently ranking as one of the top five breeds in America. Their intelligence, loyalty, and friendly disposition make them exceptional companions, especially in households with children. These dogs are gentle, fun-loving, and excel in various roles due to their strong work ethic and adaptability.

If I could leave 10 stars for Elite Dog Training Broward I would. I have spent my life training teachers how to teach and have concluded that successful teaching requires an equal mix of love and competency. Marie, the owner, excels in both areas! My Labrador Retriever, Kairo, who is training to be a therapy dog LOVES Marie. He will do everything she asks … why? Because he feels her love and she knows exactly what she is doing. Her joy mixed with her competence is a magnet for dogs and their owners. Marie’s deep passion for dogs is contagious. I’ve learned so much especially clarity, consistency and also how to play with my dog. Marie’s entire team to include Gus and Matt make training so much fun! The entire team is well prepared, shows up on time, and is always encouraging. Every penny I paid for this training is worth it. I can’t wait for Kairo to begin therapy work. Because of the thorough and skilled training served up with laughter and love received from Marie and her team, Kai will be a wonderful and safe therapy dog bringing love to so many. Thank you, Marie, from the bottom of my heart. Forever grateful. Pat and Kairo

I am writing to express my deepest gratitude for the exceptional training that my dog, Brooklin, has received under Dog Training Elite’s guidance. The transformation in Brooklin's behavior and obedience is nothing short of remarkable, and it is a testament to the high-quality training provided by the esteemed team of Marie, Gus & Matthew. Marie's expertise and patience is pivotal in Brooklin's development. Her ability to connect with the dogs and tailor her approach to their individual needs is truly commendable. It is evident that she cares deeply about the well-being and progress of each canine in her class, and this dedication shines through in the results. After just two sessions, the improvement in Brooklin's obedience is clearly visible, and it brings me immense joy to see such positive changes. Furthermore, the dogs trained under Gus' guidance have shown remarkable improvements in obedience, agility, and task performance. His constant feedback and encouragement have been invaluable, especially during our public area training sessions. Gus's expertise and positive demeanor make the learning process enjoyable and effective, not just for Brooklin, but for me as well. His approach is not only professional but also filled with a genuine passion for helping dogs and their owners achieve their best. The environment at Dog Training Elite is one of support, encouragement, and professionalism. It is a place where dogs are not just trained but nurtured to become well-behaved and happy companions. The skills and techniques that Brooklin has learned are invaluable, and the confidence that both of us have gained from Dog Training Elite is immeasurable. The commitment to excellence in dog training has made a significant difference in our lives, and I am truly grateful for the positive impact Marie & Gus have had on Brooklin and myself

Marie and Gus are extremely professional and knowledgeable, and they truly care for your pets, using the best methods to ensure no harm comes to your furry babies. I would rate them 5 Stars Outstanding From the first contact with Marie's team, I found the professional, willing and able to help with our 5 year old Plot Hound rescue. We rescued our Tazzy from a no kill shelter 6 months ago. We are dog lovers and have two wonderful dogs who live to the age of 14. Tazzy is by far the most active. We don't know her history but found her aggressive with anyone coming to the door or gate. From the first lesson, Marie was always helpful in explaining each step she was taking with the training. I soon realized we need to remain calm but in control when Tazzy acted out. We needed training too. With Marie's guidance, patience and authority, Tazzy's behavior with strangers is very much improved. We would recommend Marie's Dog Training Elite to everyone who wants to learn how to adjust their thinking and methods in training their dog. They are remarkable!

Broward / Fort Lauderdale Golden Retriever Puppy Training

Training a Golden Retriever Puppy

At Dog Training Elite Broward, we recommend starting dog training as early as possible. Puppies are capable of learning basic commands, and smart Golden Retriever puppies do great with early training.

Complete Broward / Fort Lauderdale Golden Retriever Puppy Training typically takes a few months. We offer specialized in-home training. Working with a Golden Retriever puppy and the owner directly in the home prevents puppies from being distracted and allows dog trainers to create personalized training plans for individual puppies, as well as address any unique needs or issues. Once a puppy has completed in-home training, we offer puppy group classes for further training.

Beginning Golden Retriever training in the home also helps owners bond with their pup so when the dog trainer leaves, no progress is lost. It’s important for owners to be consistent with puppy training and continue it long term.

Training can be great mental stimulation, so a great exercise for Golden Retrievers as they get older is progressing their training. Once your puppy has mastered sitting, for example, train them to maintain the position until released. Once your puppy is a bit older, explore other sports and activities.

Golden Retriever Training Tips

Golden Retrievers are quick learners with a strong desire to work alongside their owners. Their intelligence and willingness to follow commands make them ideal for various types of training, from basic obedience to more advanced skills.

Here are some essential training tips for Golden Retrievers.

Golden Retrievers are considered “sporting dogs” and require at least an hour of daily exercise. True to their name, Golden Retrievers love retrieving things! Golden Retrievers can even participate in obedience and agility events, and they’ll enjoy every minute of it.

A Golden Retriever puppy that doesn’t get enough exercise is likely to develop bad behaviors like digging or chewing. During the first two years of a Golden Retriever’s life, however, make sure to take it easy with exercise as their growth plates are still forming - don’t go for long, strenuous runs or hikes until the dog is fully grown and try to always opt for grass instead of concrete.

Golden Retrievers can easily become overweight so owners will need to help manage their food intake. Measure out food twice a day instead of “free-feeding” and give treats in moderation.

If you have adopted a Golden Retriever puppy to become part of a family, make sure all kids and adults are on the same page with training and all practice basic tricks with the family dog.

At Dog Training Elite, we have developed training programs for puppies and adult dogs alike based on positive reinforcement. German Shepherd training with our in-home option is entirely possible.

Establish house rules for your dog, and then stick to them. If you choose not to let your dog on the couch, don’t ever let them on the couch for any reason. Golden Retriever training can help you establish routines and learn how to be consistent about enforcing them.

The Dog Training Elite Difference

At Dog Training Elite Broward, we use modern training methods focused on positive reinforcement and bonding between dog and dog owner. We never resort to the use of punishment to help dogs unlearn bad behavior. The difference becomes clear when comparing a dog that is trained out of anxiety and intimidation vs a dog who truly desires to please from the inside out.

The Dog Training Elite training theory for every dog breed is mostly based around classical conditioning, also known as the Pavlovian method or respondent conditioning. This includes developing conditioned or automatic reflexes to commands. In its simplest form (after proper conditioning), when an owner says "sit," their dog automatically sits without thinking about it.

Through a combination of commands and an electronic collar, dogs learn to follow commands at once. The electronic collar is not a shock collar; it is a gentle electronic pulse, similar to the tug of a leash, used to get the dog’s attention. Other dog trainers use harsh static collars or spray collars which have been shown to be less effective. Our method of focusing on positive behavior reinforcement nurtures a dog's loving and naturally obedient nature.
