Golden Retrievers have long been a favorite choice for families, consistently ranking as one of the top five breeds in America. Their intelligence, loyalty, and friendly disposition make them exceptional companions, especially in households with children. These dogs are gentle, fun-loving, and excel in various roles due to their strong work ethic and adaptability.

Despite their many strengths, Golden Retrievers are not naturally aggressive, which means they may not be the best choice as guard dogs. However, their calm and sociable nature makes them a perfect fit for families looking for a loving and dependable companion.

I contacted Dog Training Elite Orlando for a one-on-one (1-hour, in-home) training session, to help ensure my dog and I were ready for our CGCA exam next week (my girl passed her CGC exam last month). My main concern was loose leash walking, an exam killer! Trainer Maria observed my dog on her Martingale collar, and then observed her on a slip lead. She showed me the overall differences between the two options, and she clearly outlined my dog's behavior differences on each of them. Ultimately, both me and my dog were more confident as a team on the slip lead. Trainer Maria was promptly on time, she was kind, she was knowledgeable, and so helpful. She clearly loves dogs, and has a passion for what she does. She was truly amazing. After just this one session with Trainer Maria, I feel much more confident, and like I am on the right track for my girl to pass her CGCA exam. Thank you so much!

I highly recommend Dog Training Elite in Orlando. Craig Fizer and his team have been outstanding in providing guidance with training, and instilling confidence in me and my three year old German Shepherd dog. She had some basic obedience training as a puppy, but due to a heart problem, and lots of down time and hospitals, she had very little training or socialization for most of her life. She became highly reactive to other dogs. After a few personal sessions for obedience at our home, Craig started introducing her to other dogs, and showing me how to manage situations. Everything is gradual and controlled, and she is now participating in group sessions and pack walks. She gains more confidence with each session. I am very happy with the results we are achieving. It’s been a great experience.

I’m amazed how far my pups have come in just 5 sessions! I was at my wits end thinking that my only option was to rehome one of my dogs. The aggressive behavior between two of our dogs had made our home a battleground with fights that could become bloody. They’ve now learned to be in the same room and not tear into each other. We are enjoying our time together and are so grateful that we didn’t give up on them. Cheyenne has taught us how to utilize teachable moments and create opportunities to maximize each of our pups different motivators. We also learned how to divert their energy into productive activities that help to keep them happier and less bored. They are “different” dogs and the anxiety level in our home has decreased significantly. I can’t recommend them enough. Don’t give up on your dogs! I’ve learned as much or more than my dogs have, and I’m so grateful that I found Dog Training Elite.

Cheyenne and Keri took time to bond with my dogs before training began. They were peaceful and kind- demonstrating, evaluating, and providing great suggestions to help us learn to communicate and give better guidance to our furbabies. We had Maria for our second session and she was great. She provided knowledge and understanding for some of the different behaviors from my very reactive dog. We have seen improvements with both of our pups and with ourselves. DTE Orlando is wonderful.

We’re so grateful for the help we received from Craig as we prepared our dog for the arrival of our baby girl! Our pup had been struggling with barking and some anxiety, but with Craig’s guidance, we saw a huge improvement. Not only is he barking less, but he has also picked up new commands (like “quiet”) and seems so much more relaxed and happy overall. The training was gentle, clear, and tailored to our family’s needs—and it gave us so much peace of mind going into this big life change. Highly recommend!

I am incredibly grateful to Dog Training Elite for the amazing work they’ve done with my dog! From the very beginning, it was clear that their team genuinely cares about both the dogs and their owners. I truly value the time they’ve spent with us, not just in training but in offering support, guidance, and reassurance every step of the way. I couldn’t be more thankful for their commitment to helping us succeed. If you’re looking for a dog trainer that goes above and beyond, I highly recommend Dog Training Elite. Craig was instrumental in helping us train our Goldendoodle puppy, Tally. He is patient and easy to work with. Dog Training Elite North Orlando has a great program and Tally is well behaved after going through training. She loves the group training in the park and we enjoy taking her with us to places now that she has manners. We highly recommend Craig and Dog Training Elite North Orlando.

Cheyenne has been great to work with. Our primary goal was reliable off-leash recalls. Our Newfoundland "knew" his commands, but only did them when he felt like it and he definitely never felt like coming when called! Our dog was not a super quick learner, but Cheyenne was steady and patient. The transformation has been amazing. We can hike off leash, he doesn't run up to other dogs or people and he comes when called--even when there's something very interesting I want him to leave. Definitely recommend!

I've been training with Dog Training Elite Orlando for many months now and have had a great experience with all of the trainers. Today Cheyenne administered our service dog test and I'm so pleased to say we passed. DTE has prepared us so well in our training over the months and we are excited to continue working with them to ensure he is the best service dog he can be!

Craig Pizer of North Orlando ELITE Dog Training did an AMAZING job with my boy. He is a service dog for an American Veteran Hero who is an amputee that depends on him daily. Through Craig’s training he knows his job, loves going every where and is a great example of a well trained dog that’s confident in his abilities. Craig approach uses positive reinforcement training him to make the right decision allowing him to build his confindence for every situation. Thank you Craig Pizer owner of Elite Dog Training of North Orlando, Fl.

We’ve had a great experience with Dog Training Elite! Craig is fantastic, knowledgeable, patient, and clearly passionate about what he does. The one-on-one sessions helped us build a strong foundation, and the group classes have been a great way to reinforce those skills around distractions. We’ve seen real progress and feel so much more confident as dog owners. Highly recommend!

I first met Craig after countless attempts and years of efforts of finding a service dog. Craig went above and beyond to help me eventually be paired with Shay. Upon meeting Shay, I knew that she was an extremely well trained girl (as she was trained by Craig for more than a year) and that will help me as soon as she completed her service task training. Craig and his team worked with me to identify all the ways in which Shay will assist in time of need. Not only was her training impeccable, but he also made himself readily available (even after moving out of state) to answer any and all of my questions. I am happy to share that Shay is a working service dog that accompanies me everywhere and is there for me in my time of medical need. It is without exaggeration that I say that both Craig and Shay have made me feel in control of my life and health again. I am forever grateful and will never be able to fully express my gratitude.

Dog training elite is the real deal! Make the investment. I took my first dog to 2 different trainers (over 12 weeks of classes) and nothing stuck. We recently adopted a second dog and hired dog training elite and I wish I started with them from the start. All of the trainers are extremely knowledgeable and talented. If you are on the fence just go for it you will not be disappointed.

Maria from Dog Training Elite is absolutely amazing! From the very first session, she demonstrated incredible knowledge, patience, and a true passion for working with dogs. She took the time to understand our dog’s unique personality and tailored the training to fit our needs perfectly. Her positive reinforcement approach made a huge difference, and we saw noticeable improvements in behavior almost immediately. Not only is Maria great with dogs, but she also does a fantastic job educating owners, making sure we feel confident in continuing the training at home. If you’re looking for a skilled, compassionate, and dedicated trainer, I highly recommend Maria! She has truly made a lasting impact on our dog’s behavior and our overall experience as pet owners. Thank you, Maria, for everything!

Orlando Golden Retriever Puppy Training

Training a Golden Retriever Puppy

At Dog Training Elite in Orlando, we recommend starting dog training as early as possible. Puppies are capable of learning basic commands, and smart Golden Retriever puppies do great with early training.

Complete Orlando Golden Retriever Puppy Training typically takes a few months. We offer specialized in-home training. Working with a Golden Retriever puppy and the owner directly in the home prevents puppies from being distracted and allows dog trainers to create personalized training plans for individual puppies, as well as address any unique needs or issues. Once a puppy has completed in-home training, we offer puppy group classes for further training.

Beginning Golden Retriever training in the home also helps owners bond with their pup so when the dog trainer leaves, no progress is lost. It’s important for owners to be consistent with puppy training and continue it long term.

Training can be great mental stimulation, so a great exercise for Golden Retrievers as they get older is progressing their training. Once your puppy has mastered sitting, for example, train them to maintain the position until released. Once your puppy is a bit older, explore other sports and activities.

Golden Retriever Training Tips

Golden Retrievers are quick learners with a strong desire to work alongside their owners. Their intelligence and willingness to follow commands make them ideal for various types of training, from basic obedience to more advanced skills.

Here are some essential training tips for Golden Retrievers.

Golden Retrievers are considered “sporting dogs” and require at least an hour of daily exercise. True to their name, Golden Retrievers love retrieving things! Golden Retrievers can even participate in obedience and agility events, and they’ll enjoy every minute of it.

A Golden Retriever puppy that doesn’t get enough exercise is likely to develop bad behaviors like digging or chewing. During the first two years of a Golden Retriever’s life, however, make sure to take it easy with exercise as their growth plates are still forming - don’t go for long, strenuous runs or hikes until the dog is fully grown and try to always opt for grass instead of concrete.

Golden Retrievers can easily become overweight so owners will need to help manage their food intake. Measure out food twice a day instead of “free-feeding” and give treats in moderation.

If you have adopted a Golden Retriever puppy to become part of a family, make sure all kids and adults are on the same page with training and all practice basic tricks with the family dog.

At Dog Training Elite, we have developed training programs for puppies and adult dogs alike based on proven techniques. German Shepherd training with our in-home option is entirely possible.

Establish house rules for your dog, and then stick to them. If you choose not to let your dog on the couch, don’t ever let them on the couch for any reason. Golden Retriever training can help you establish routines and learn how to be consistent about enforcing them.

The Dog Training Elite Difference

At Dog Training Elite in Orlando, we use modern training methods focused on balance and bonding between dog and dog owner. We never resort to the use of punishment to help dogs unlearn bad behavior. The difference becomes clear when comparing a dog that is trained out of anxiety and intimidation vs a dog who truly desires to please from the inside out.

The Dog Training Elite training theory for every dog breed is mostly based around classical conditioning, also known as the Pavlovian method or respondent conditioning. This includes developing conditioned or automatic reflexes to commands. In its simplest form (after proper conditioning), when an owner says "sit," their dog automatically sits without thinking about it.

Through a combination of commands and an electronic collar, dogs learn to follow commands at once. The electronic collar is not a shock collar; it is a gentle electronic pulse, similar to the tug of a leash, used to get the dog’s attention. Other dog trainers use harsh static collars or spray collars which have been shown to be less effective. Our method nurtures a dog's loving and naturally obedient nature.
